*New breast cancer drugs could be used to treat future blood cancer patients

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research scientists have shown that a gene implicated in breast cancer is also involved in the development of myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs). These findings, published in the journal Blood on 28 August 2009, mean that new drugs being developed to treat breast cancer could also be beneficial to patients with an MPD.

A team of Birmingham researchers have received a £50,000 boost from Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research after HRH The Duke of Kent selected the charity to receive a grant from The Freemasons’ Grand Charity. The grant, which was awarded in June, will help improve treatments and cures for childhood leukaemia.
