Royal Albert Hall London | Thursday 10 December 2009

The festive fun started early this year as famous faces from some of TV’s most popular programmes gathered for TV Times’ Christmas Carols with the Stars on 10 December 2009 at the Royal Albert Hall.

The star-studded line-up of guests and performers included famous faces from Strictly Come Dancing, Coronation Street and Eastenders, with all the money raised going to blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

A galaxy of stars sang and introduced carols throughout the night. Eastenders actors Ricky Groves and Marc Elliott introduced their fellow cast members Linda Henry and Cheryl Fergison, who for the second year running entertained the audience, this year with Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’!. Meanwhile Albert Square’s toughest ever gangster ‘Johnny Allen’, actor Billy Murray, introduced Casualty actress Nicole Faraday who treated everyone to ‘Just in Time for Christmas’.

Weatherfield was also well represented at the event, with Coronation Street’s Vicky Binns and David Neilson introducing the Street’s Jenny McAlpine who sang ‘Santa Baby’. Conor Ryan who plays bad boy ‘Len Windass’ in the soap performed John Lennon’s ‘Happy Christmas (War is Over)’. Hollyoaks’ Elaine Glover brought a mellow feel to the evening with a rendition of Norah Jones’ ‘Don’t Know Why’.

Other stars who introduced carols on the night included Strictly Come Dancing’s Bruno Tonioli and Camilla Dallerup, The Bill’s Graham Cole, celebrity chef Gary Rhodes and GMTV’s Ben Shepherd, Dancing On Ice’s Donal Macintyre and Holby City’s Luke Roberts.

Emmerdale’s Tony Audenshaw and his band ‘White Van Man’ brought some rock to the occasion with a selection of favourite Christmas songs, including a memorable version of the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’, with some slight alterations to the original lyrics!

Broadcaster and international conductor Frank Renton hosted the evening’s entertainment, as well as leading performances by his Concert Brass Band. The Sydenham High School provided a brilliant backing to all the acts throughout the night.

Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, says: “We are so lucky to have so many well-known celebrities who take time out to support our TV Times Christmas Carols with the Stars event. It was a fantastic evening and will help us raise much-needed money to help us beat blood cancers.”
