In October 2006, DIY retailer Wickes chose Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research to be their first charity partner.

In November 2009, Wickes colleagues reached the phenomenal fundraising milestone of raising £1,000,000 - surpassing all expectations and demonstrating their commitment to supporting our vital research.

Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, has been amazed by the generosity of all those at Wickes saying, "Wickes has shown an incredible commitment and dedication to fundraising for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research since the partnership began. To reach £1 million is amazing and it will make a real difference to the lives of people touched by leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood cancers and disorders."

Throughout the course of the partnership, staff at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research have worked closely with Wickes colleagues to ensure they received the best support for their fundraising activities and awareness raising.

*Everyone in the company has contributed to the success of the partnership. Wickes colleagues in all 195 stores across the country have organised store events including family fun days, fancy dress days, head shaves and BBQs. Individual colleagues have thrown themselves into sponsored skydives, bikeathons, marathons, triathlons and even shark dives!

On the night of November 18th Wickes continued to amaze Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research with their generosity by raising an amazing £110,000! The Wickes Charity Dinner, held at The Science Museum, was the greatest fundraiser to date for the charity partnership. Wickes staff, suppliers and customers who attended the gala enjoyed a night of fine food, entertainment and great auction items.

Highlights of the partnership also include the recent climb of Mount Kilimanjaro organised by Wickes MD, Jeremy Bird who managed to scale the largest mountain in Africa in a kilt!

Kilimanjaro Challenge
-
On 14 October 2009, a team of sixteen colleagues from Wickes and their suppliers, arrived at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa after raising over £50,000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

This amazing challenge was as tough as it gets, as the climbers took the longest, most gruelling route, which involved eight days on the mountain!
