The ‘Alternative Hair Show’ hit the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 18 October, with the hairdressing industry’s brightest talents from around the world contributing to the fashion show. It was the 27th London Alternative Hair Show, which has raised an incredible £7 million for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research since it began.
As well as the spectacular visuals and music, which attracted people from across Europe, the show’s commitment to fundraising for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research was also warmly supported by the audience.
Money raised from the show sends children with leukaemia to Disneyland Paris every year with their families, giving them the opportunity to have some normal time together. For the first time ever this year, families where one of the parents had a blood cancer were able to come on the trip. Within weeks of the trip, one father, Andrei, who had an 18-month-old baby, tragically died from his leukaemia.
Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, addressed the audience with an emotional appeal for its continued support into research and thanked the Alternative Hair Show for its generosity over the years. Highlighting Andrei’s story, she said: “We console ourselves that we were able to give him some special memories in his last few days but this is why your support is so important to us.”
